On Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd May, the Greenyards comes alive as the Home of Sevens welcomes players, supporters and visitors from across the rugby world for an unforgettable weekend of rugby and atmosphere.
We kick things off on Friday with a brilliant line-up of events. The Merchiston Coaching Clinic and Howden Girls Rugby Festival offer young players the chance to learn, develop and be part of Sevens weekend. The Family Food Village will also be open with free entry for all, making it the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere ahead of the main event.
Friday evening then brings the Jackson Distillers Melrose Sevens Hall of Fame dinner, celebrating the legends, stories and heritage that have shaped the game at the Home of Sevens.
Then on Saturday, the action begins with the first tie kicking off at 10:30am. From the Men’s 1883 Centenary Cup, to the Breadalbane Doddie Claymore women’s tournament and the Under 18s Open Tournament, you’ll see the very best of the game – all coming together to celebrate rugby at every level.
Whether you’re joining us in the ground, in the Grandstand, or enjoying hospitality in the 1883 Pavilion or Doddie Club, everything is set for a special weekend at the Greenyards.

Where Sevens Was Founded
Melrose is where rugby sevens was founded. First played on the Greenyards in 1883, what began as a local fundraising idea sparked a global sporting movement – one that’s now celebrated in stadiums and festivals around the world.
More than 140 years on, the Melrose Sevens still captures that same energy and excitement – world-class rugby, electric crowds, and the unmistakable buzz of the Greenyards. From local clubs to international stars, this is the home of the sevens.
